Abstract

The prevalence and incidence of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in mainland China in 2016 were 2.97 and 1.62 per 100,000 person-years, respectively. However, the mortality of ALS is still unclear. The government and the public are very concerned. Although, the precise incidence, prevalence and mortality of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in mainland China are still unclear; however, the government and the public are very concerned. Although funding from the government, society and other organizations to support ALS-related research, care, rehabilitation and caregiver assistance is growing continuously, it still lags behind developed countries and needs to be further increased. Due to traditional Chinese beliefs, ALS patients and their families generally have low acceptance rates for invasive treatments, thus highlighting the importance of increasing the relevant knowledge regarding this disease.
