Abstract

The aim of the study was to measure images concerning the successfulness of the functioning of seven social institutions. The data are based on a nation wide representative Finnish survey. Institutions as attitude-objects were Provincial Governments, Judiciary, Old-Age Pension system, Church, Municipal Social Service Authorities, Parliament, and Taxation Authorities. The study has two specific aims: (1) to descripc the range, averages and dimensionality of the evaluations and, (2) to specify the nature of the ex plaining mechanisms (structural variables, identification variables, and gene ral attitude variables) of these evaluations.
