Abstract

ABSTRACT This study sought to explore if and how shelters and other temporary housing providers receive library services from their local public libraries and to measure their satisfaction with these services. E-mails including a link to an online survey were sent to 1,000 temporary housing providers obtained through publicly available data. Seventy-six providers responded, with two-thirds indicating some type of relationship with the public library. Overall, providers were satisfied with these services, but comments revealed several instances where patrons in temporary housing felt unwelcome in the local library, indicating the need for more inclusive and welcoming library services for people who are in temporary housing.
