Abstract

Managing the public sector, such as the health care sector in Poland, is a responsibility that largely falls on the government and the state. It is connected not only with such organization that is to favour and bring benefits to every citizen, taking into account their needs and following the changing trends on the field of these needs. It is also supposed to be economically effective, which is often in a disharmony with social interests. The presented study is a short summary of theoretical considerations on a public management. A particular emphasis was put on the specificity of the decision-making in the health care system. It is also an attempt to assess the functioning of the health system in Poland in years 2020 and 2021. In addition to the statistical data on the health of Poles and the functioning of the system, it also refers to the legislation created for the needs of the pandemic.
