Abstract

The article focuses on the public health implications behind front-of-package (FOP) nutrition labels for processed food and resistance by the food industry to FOP labels. It comments on the French Nutri-Score FOP labeling scheme and efforts of the French food industry to block it and replace it with industry-developed Guideline Daily Amounts which are more confusing. It mentions warning labels used in Chile warning consumers on foods high in sodium, sugar, saturated fats, and calories.
