Abstract

In recent years, interracial relationships have been widely discussed in China. By analyzing public attitudes towards interracial relationships, this paper provides an overview of peoples different attitudes toward womens interracial relationships and mens interracial relationships on Chinese social media. It introduces three cases of interracial relationships, including two womens interracial relationships and one mens interracial relationship and compares peoples different attitudes. This approach explains why Chinese social media users have such different attitudes from the perspective of ethnocentrism and patriarchy. Through a combination of theory and examples, the study points out that ethnocentrism causes people to think negatively about interracial relationships, while patriarchy leads to gender differences in attitudes toward interracial relationships, which is a double standard. Additionally, this research highlights that the discrimination and stigmatization of interracial relationships and female groups can be improved in the long term by the policymakers efforts through publicity and education.
