Public Affairs Triumvirate Strategy: College and Community Collaboration to Create a New Paradigm in Public Safety Education and Training

Abstract

This chapter presents the first example of the Public Affairs Triumvirate strategy application by highlighting innovative activities at Valencia College in Orlando, Florida, to guide the formulation of a new paradigm in public safety education and training. In Valencia College’s region with record tourism, over 75 million visitors each year, and a growing residential population, the Public Affairs Triumvirate strategy led to the successful implementation of the “School” of Public Safety and lead to transformative organizational change at this college. The strategy resulted in an “intentional service integrated” model of public safety education and training at Valencia College that can be adopted by communities and regions across the globe that host a large service population.
