Abstract

<P>Adolescence may be considered a time of reorganization of biological, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning. The biological changes that fall under the rubric of puberty include changes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, development of secondary sexual characteristics, increase in growth velocity, change in body composition, and attainment of fertility. </P> <H4>ABOUT THE AUTHORS</H4> <P>Dr. Biro is professor of clinical pediatrics, Division of Adolescent Medicine, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH.
