Abstract

Pt-Al2O3 aerogels were successfully synthesized via solution-freeze-drying-calcination technology. The structure of Pt-Al2O3 aerogels were analyzed by various characterization methods, which displayed that the Pt nanoparticles with a size of about 25 nm were uniformly attached on the surface of Al2O3 aerogel and the Al2O3 aerogel could effectively prevent the Pt nanoparticles from aggregating. Then, the as-prepared Al2O3 aerogel was used as catalyst support of Pt to catalyze the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate. It proved that the thermal decomposition temperature of ammonium perchlorate was reduced from 418 to 347 °C and the heat release was increased from 165 to 1784 J/g. Therefore, Al2O3 aerogel was a good catalyst support of Pt for the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate.
