Psychotherapeutic training – a prerequisite for sectorized psychiatry.In the ambitious reorganization of mental health services in Sweden, emphasis was put on comprehensive care, planned by a well-trained staff working at mental health centers within the community. Treatment is planned in accordance with an open-system concept, in which biologic, psychologic, social, cultural, and economic factors are assumed to interact in becoming a patient, in developing symptoms, and in dealing with these in a mutual treatment effort. Change – a reorganization of individuals (of both patients and staff) or of institutions – can arouse hope and fear, engagement and resistance. It is imperative to have a responsible and competent leadership, who can maintain clear boundaries around the primary task – that is, growth and health facilitating interactions between patients and staff.
