Abstract

Victimology has during the last 15-20 years expanded as a field of research. Victimology has, however, in Norway had a long tradition. One outstanding example is Leo Eitinger and Axel Strom's research on KZ-prisoners.There are many indicators that violence is going to be an expanding problem in today's modern society. Therefore it has been more and more necessary to look at those consequences a trauma of violence can have for the individual in order to get more knowledge on how to treat and care for the traumatized patient. One knows now a good deal about the epidemiology of violence, but less about psychosocial consequences of trauma of violence. One further knows little about the effect of preventive measures and treatment measures for these patients. Therefore at the Office of Catastrophy Psychiatry in Oslo, one did a pilot study which is discussed in this article.
