Abstract

This paper aims to provide a succinct overview of the factors common to empirically validated psychotherapies for borderline personality disorder (BPD), including the treatment structure required. Individual psychotherapy remains the cornerstone of treatment for BPD. Factors common to empirically validated modalities of therapeutic treatment have been identified. These need to be provided within an individualised and structured treatment framework. Improved outcome of treatment for BPD can then be achieved.
