Abstract

Looking at the narratives given by conumers of aid services, it seems in many situations the scope of support should be expanded to include psychotherapy. This happens primarily when the expected impact of institutional support is not sufficient due to childhood traumas, unprocessed losses, rejection by significant others, toxic family system that all preclude proper functioning. This article discusses most popular psychotherapy modalities practiced in Poland that have scientific basis (cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, humanistic, systemic) as well as forms of psychotherapy (individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, family therapy, couples therapy). The author indicates practical aspects of psychotherapy services functioning in Poland in a widely construed mental health and social assistance services sphere.
