Abstract
This chapter discusses the application of the cognitive-experiential theory (CET) as an integrative framework for psychotherapy, with particular emphasis on the use of fantasy and imagery to reach the experiential system. It provides examples to illustrate the use of fantasy as vicarious experience, a psychotherapeutic procedure based on CET, and the power of fantasy in a dramatic recovery from a life-threatening disease. It also considers the use of the rational system to correct the experiential system and the use of fantasy to communicate with the experiential system in its own medium.
