Abstract

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a disruptive behavior disorder that is associated with social, family, and academic impairment. These areas of impairment are predictive of negative outcomes for adolescents, such as peer rejection, low or failing grades, and family conflict. This article reviews impairment associated with adolescents with ADHD and treatment approaches for these youth, with an emphasis on recent findings. There is a need for more research targeted at developing effective interventions for adolescents with ADHD, establishing reliable and valid assessment instruments, and identifying effective dissemination procedures.
