The Sri Lanka Journal of Psychiatry (SLJP) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal published bi annually by the Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists.The Journal publishes original papers, brief reports including case reports and commentaries relevant to psychiatry and allied sciences. Introduction

Schizophrenia is usually characterized by relapses, alternating with periods of full or partial remission, and generally runs a chronic course [1]. Previous studies have shown that family interventions are effective in reducing relapses, improving social functioning, mitigating the severity of the psychotic symptoms, and adjusting the level of expressed emotions of family members of patients with psychosis [11].
