Abstract

Psychosocial approaches to the treatment and prevention of depression in children are reviewed. Examination of case studies, comparative group treatment studies, and preventive intervention trials highlight several promising intervention strategies. Based on this review, a framework for conceptualizing the role of psychosocial factors on childhood-onset depression and suggestions regarding clinical treatment are offered.
