Abstract

A notable exception in this discouraging situation has been the work of Walter Kintsch, professor of quantitative psychology at the University of Colorado.1 For some years, he has done pioneering research on the processing, memory storage, and recall of entire texts. Using and modifying Kintsch's theories, I designed an experiment that was conducted at his institute. Sixty undergraduate students who were enrolled in Psychology 100, an introductory course which attracts students from many disciplines, were obtained as test subjects.
