Abstract

In this chapter we focus on psychological wellbeing in later life. We show that psychological wellbeing is a broad concept and one that is influenced by, and indeed influences, many aspects of life. Further, psychological wellbeing also changes as people age. We focus our discussion on intrapersonal aspects of wellbeing including affect, morale, and wellbeing. We then turn our attention to interpersonal aspects including social participation, support, and social relationships. Finally we examine factors which hinder and promote psychological wellbeing, focusing especially on resilience.
