Psychological characteristics of young fracture patients after surgery and its influencing factors

Abstract

Objective To explore the psychological characteristics of young fracture patients after surgery and its influencing factors. Methods From January 2016 to January 2017, we selected 180 young fracture patients with surgery in the First Hospital of China Medical University. Psychological characteristics of patients after surgery were investigated with the general information questionnaire, Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) and its influencing factors were analyzed. Results Among those young fracture patients, the scores of interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety and hostility were (2.16±0.23), (1.83±0.23), (1.91±0.34) and (1.92±0.36) respectively higher than those of national norm of youth with significant differences (t=7.575, 5.350, 11.992, 8.358; P<0.05). Single factor analysis showed that there was a high level of total symptom index among young fracture patients with female, being married, low degree of education, traffic accident, injury by falling, severe trauma, complications, four level of types of surgery, a low level of social support, being at their own expense and severe pain (P<0.05). Multiple Logistic regression analysis indicated that the independent influencing factors influencing psychological characteristics of young fracture patients after surgery included sexes, causes of trauma, injury severity, postoperative complications, types of surgery, social support, medical expense payment and pain intensity (OR=1.898, 3.451, 3.154, 1.768, 3.419, 3.162, 2.012, 3.521; P<0.05). Conclusions Young fracture patients have a high level of postoperative psychological symptom index usually accompanied with negative psychology such as anxiety, depression and interpersonal sensitivity. Besides, psychological status of young fracture patients after surgery is influenced by sexes, causes of trauma, injury severity, types of surgery, postoperative complications, social support, medical expense payment and pain intensity.
