Abstract
It could be a “New Beginning”; it could be a “Window on the World.” “New Beginning” and “Window on the World” are the titles of two of my paintings. “Window on the World” (see Figure 1) shows a small figure playing a grand piano in my living room. In the background are a large painting and a window looking onto the garden. “New Beginning” shows a larger figure, a man intensely focused on his piano-playing. The pianist in each of the paintings is my partner, Jim Blight. Jim is the subject of, and has been the inspiration for, many of my paintings. The first of the Jim paintings stemmed from this interchange in Jim’s studio:
