Abstract
This fascinating volume grew out of a supplement of the Atlantic Monthly which caused most newsstands to run out of available issues on the date of its delivery. This was no accident, as the authors of this symposium provided the readers with a rich mosaic of the role and influence of psychiatry on our way of life. This same serendipitous effect is experienced from this expanded volume. Mr. Rolo, the editor, describes three revolutions which have occurred in Western thought: the Copernican, in which man was dethroned from the center of the universe; the Darwinian, where man's sense of divinity was challenged
