Abstract

In this article, some of the physical factors that affect children with congenital heart disease are discussed and the effects of congenital heart disease on intellectual and emotional development are explored. Psychiatric studies are reviewed in an effort to increase understanding of the way in which the physician can prevent or alleviate some of the problems that accompany congenital heart disease. Since children with the more serious forms of congenital heart disease are hospitalized, the effects of hospitalization, the optimal time of hospitalization, and recommendations for management are presented.
