Abstract

We present results of the modelling of the full polarization data of the PSR J0437 – 4715, which were recently published by Manchester & Johnston. This pulsar presents a real challenge for pulsar modelling because of seven clear components in its mean profile. In terms of the conal model of pulsar emission this is the first case that indicates that there are three distinct cones surrounding the central core beam. We attempt to model this pulsar and obtain a satisfactory fit to the data. We succeed in reproducing the complexities of the multiple-component profile, the polarization properties and the single-pulse modulation pattern. We argue that the emission mechanism of millisecond pulsars is the same as that of typical pulsars, presumably a coherent curvature radiation.
