Abstract

Psoriasis research has progressed impressively over the past years. New insights into its pathogenesis and the study of novel therapies have made psoriasis a model disorder and have revealed basic cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying chronic inflammatory disorders. In this issue, renowned experts provide a comprehensive view on many aspects of psoriasis including clinical spectrum, pathogenesis, epidemiology, phychosocial and economical considerations, and therapeutic implications. Few skin disorders highlight the rapid development of biomedical research and, at the same time, the shift of pathogenic and therapeutic paradigms as vividly as psoriasis, one of the most common chronic inflammatory skin disorders.1,2 The exciting discoveries in psoriasis research cover many different aspects, some of which may serve to exemplify the broad range:
