Abstract

The differential diagnosis of an acute psychotic episode includes medical and pharmacological causes. We present the case of a patient who suffered from symptoms compatible with a psychotic episode after having been treated with metronidazole. The absence of mental disease background, the absence of medical illness and the fast resolution of the case after stopping the treatment, supports the hypothesis that the antibiotic was the cause of the psychotic features.
