Abstract

This paper is an analysis of A paixao segundo G.H. (1964), by Clarice Lispector, through Lacanian Materialism. We focus on the first of the thirty-three chapters of the novel, chapter we relate to the concept of pseudo-activity as understood by Slavoj Žižek, one of the main names of Lacanian Materialism. The main conclusion we achieve from this analysis is that the pseudo-activity plays the role of a stylistic feature which highlights the sensation of trauma experienced by the narrator in relation to the facts she reports.
