Abstract

A patient was recently encountered in this department in whom a malpositioned colon almost led to an erroneous diagnosis of peri-renal abscess. A 67-year-old man, known to have renal calculi, came to the hospital complaining of fever, haematuria, and flank pain. A plain film of the abdomen and an intravenous pyelogram showed a collection of little bubbles superior and lateral to the right kidney strongly suggesting a peri-renal abscess (Fig. 1).
