Abstract

The traditional methods of managing pseudarthroses and segmental defects of the long tubular bones — with the goal of restoring osseous integrity and length — have significant shortcomings and do not always result in the best outcome. Moreover, the commonly used techniques for filling defects of long bone often require multiple surgical procedures. Entirely new therapeutic strategies which we have developed enable us to solve many of these problems while, at the same time, replacing complex operations by essentially bloodless or percutaneous ones yet improving the cosmetic and functional result. We have developed a method of filling bone defects without bone grafting. Our technique of transosseous osteosynthesis allows a wide variety of individualized treatment protocols.
