Abstract

Beta-cell neogenesis is an attractive option for restoring beta-cell mass in diabetes. Recent findings indicate that beta-cells can be derived from alpha-cells under conditions of extreme beta-cell loss in mice. However, little is known about the potential of transdifferentiation capacity of human islet cells.
