Abstract

Glycosphingolipids (GSL) are implicated to play an important role in insulin resistance. We have recently described (using several rodent models of type 2 diabetes) that lowering of GSL synthesis by pharmacological inhibition of glucosylceramide synthase with the iminosugar AMPDNM, improves insulin sensitivity in adipocytes, liver and muscle.
