Abstract
The question wether a sample of a rock or a mineral belongs to an isochronc for radiogeochronological dating or for determining the initial isotopic ratio of the daughter element can be decided by measuring δ18O values. It is shown by means of Schutze's [1] incremental method that there are no limitations in applying this criterion on granitic rocks. In the case of intermediary and basic igneous rocks some knowledge is necessary on the water content of the magma and/or the spatial progress of fractional crystallization.
