Abstract

AbstractPruning of olive trees has two main objectives, i.e. to improve vegetative growth and reproductive growth. The effects of pruning on the photosynthesis, shape, growth habit and hormone balance in olive trees are discussed. The pruning tools and costs are described. The objectives of pruning during the training period, the procedures that should be followed for the annual pruning of mature olive trees, and the main canopy shapes created by pruning of olive trees are also described.
