Abstract

Purpose: Low dose rate brachytherapy (LDR) is an effective and convenient treatment option for localized prostate cancer. For some patients, high baseline urinary symptoms preclude LDR treatment. While procedures such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) can improve urinary symptoms, national consensus guidelines suggest such interventions may also limit patient eligibility for LDR. We reviewed changes in urinary symptoms and need for additional procedures in patients who underwent both TURP and LDR.
