Abstract

Experimental data concerning the effect of methylation and vibrational excitation on bi-exponential decay in pyrimidine is analyzed within the framework of a kinetic scheme. A method for the exact determination of the rate constants is given. It is shown that the effect of methylation and vibrational excitation on the internal conversion and intersystem crossing rates is consistent with the results of model studies dealing with the “proximity effect” in radiationless transitions.
