Abstract

This chapter examines empirical work on the onset of consciousness of intentions and explores its bearing on the connection between conscious intentions and intentional actions. The claim that this work shows that conscious proximal intentions emerge only after we act is shown to be false, and the standard method for timing the onset of consciousness of intentions is shown to be unreliable.
