Abstract

Recent events in North Africa and the Middle East (the “Arab Spring”) contributed to the mainstreaming of security issues in the regional and global organizations, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The main activity of the SCO is a strengthen regional security. The Regional anti-terrorist structure of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (RATS SCO) coordinates activity connected with the information exchange and strengthening cooperation in the struggle against terrorism, extremism and separatism. The objective of the study is to determine the effectiveness of the RATS SCO in regional security. Methods of research are theoretical and empirical level. A systematic approach was particularly useful. He allowed to review the activities of the internal structures of the RATS SCO and activities in the framework of the SCO in as a whole. The results showed that SCO is gradually becoming an important tool in the struggle against extremism and terrorism in the Central Asia region. A large series of joint anti-terrorism, military and navy trainings were conducted in the framework of the SCO. It is significant that developed international legal base of the Organization makes it possible to carry out anti-terrorist activities in the international legal field. The results can be used for comparative analysis of the various interstate structures, whose activities are aimed at struggle with regional and international terrorism.
