Abstract

Although a majority of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) adolescents experience a generally happy and healthy adolescence evidence shows that they may be disproportionaly affected by poorer mental health, are more likely to consume drugs and alcohol at an earlier age and are more likely to engage in risk-taking behaviour. This is why it is important that school nurses are equipped to carry out effective health promotion and provide appropriate support for LGB teenagers. This article aims to provide practical advice for school nurses to help them meet the needs of this group.
