Abstract
Targeted school violence continues to pose a threat to school safety. The challenge for schools is to provide a safe environment while continuing to meet higher academic standards. Reported here are results of a study of 15 cases of targeted school shooters from 1996 to 2005. Environmental variables are examined in three areas: school culture, peer/social dynamics, and disclosure of intentions. Recommendations are offered for implementing policies and practices based on a comprehensive team approach.
