Abstract

Sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates among older adults have increased significantly due to insufficient sexual health care. To address this, a quality improvement project educated providers at a primary care site using American Academy of Family Physicians guidelines. In a pre-/post-implementation design, 10 providers attended a 45-minute session. STI screening and positivity rates were assessed 8 weeks before and after the intervention. Screening rates increased from 2% to 10% (P < .0001), and positivity rates rose from 7% to 8% (P = .0035), indicating the effectiveness of provider education in enhancing STI screening and identifying more cases.
