Abstract
An increased frequency of hernias requiring surgical correction was observed in children with clinical and laboratory evidence of congenital rubella, as compared with controls matched for birth weight, sex, and race. As babies with both congenital rubella and congenital cytomegalovirus infection are known to shed virus dur ing the early months of life, and as babies with congenital rube l l J , s are known to represent a source of infection for susceptible contacts, it is urged that infants requir ing care for inguinal hernias be isolated from at tendants who may be pregnant .
