Abstract
AbstractUV absorption spectra in aqueous perchloric acid media were recorded at 25°C for the biologically important bases of DNA cytosine, thymine, adenine and guanine. The equilibria occurring in the low acidity range are interpreted in terms of ionization ratios and pH. In the high acidity range, results obtained according to the excess acidity method X, the function Mc, or Hammett's acidity function H0 are in good agreement. The similarity of pKBH+ obtained and those reported in the literature using other acid media and different methods, evidence the validity of the log I values calculated and the equations utilize
