Abstract

The radio frequency quadrupole accelerator concept uses rf fields for acceleration and focussing of low energy beams. The RFQ offers attractive features as the acceptance of a dc beam directly from the ion source and acceleration of intense beams with large space charge forces. Our zero-mode resonator design offers several advantageous properties, as simple construction, good rf behaviour and the possibility of very high duty cycle operation. A prototype proton accelerator for 10 - 360 keV (108.5 MHz) has been built and the status of this project will be reported.
