Abstract
Proton T1 and T1 rho have been studied in powders of (NH4)2MCl6 where M4+=Pd4+, Pt4+, Te4+, Ru4+, Ti4+, Ir4+ and Re4+ from 40 to 300K. The activation energies Ea for NH4 + motion are 0.61, 0.68 and 1.60 kcal mole-1 respectively for the Pd, Pt and Te salts, and Ea is a linear function of the lattice dimension for the cubic hexachlorides. (NH4)2TiCl6 changes structure at about 244K and (NH4)2RuCl6 is non-cubic. Approximate NH4 + tunnel frequencies have been derived from the non-classical minima in T1 and T1 rho in good agreement with previous results for other ammonium salts.
