Abstract

Energy spectra and angular distributions of 3He particles from the 32S(d, 3He) 31P reaction have been measured at an incident energy of 52 MeV. A total of 15 levels has been observed upto an excitation energy of 10 MeV. A yet unknown 1 2 + level at E X = 6.41 ± 0.06 MeV has been observed. The whole 1 d 3 2 strength is concentrated in one single state while the 2 s 1 2 and especially the 1 d 5 2 strengths are split into several levels. The spectroscopic factors of positive parity states agree fairly well with recent shell model calculations. As predicted by an effective interaction calculation, 1p hole states have been observed at an energy much lower than expected from an (e, e'p) experiment. Angular shifts between measured and calculated angular distributions have been found to be of the type of recently reported shell effects. The observed forward angle j-effect fits perfectly into this concept.
