Abstract

The recently measured spectroscopic factor for proton pick-up on 48Ca is exploited to estimate the influence of proton correlations on the strength of the magnetic dipole excitation at E X = 10.23 MeV in 48Ca. A calculation within the framework of a two-state shell-model for both the 0 + ground state and the 1 + excited state indicates that the presence of proton correlations does not account for the missing M1 strength.
