Abstract
Pneumothorax is defined as the presence of air in the pleural space, modifying negative intrapleural pressures and causing total or partial lung collapse. Incidence of pneumothorax varies according with its classification, however the rate is higher in males. Mortality rate is highly variable too (depending on patient characteristics –cardiopulmonary reserve– and pneumothorax type). Diagnosis of pneumothorax is mainly based on chest X-ray. Management requires general treatment measures as well as air- evacuation techniques
