Abstract

Insomnia is a pathological process that requires adequate clinical management using a treatment strategy aimed at controlling it. It is crucial to establish the moment in which insomnia appeared and determine if there is any associated disease. When resorting to a pharmacological treatment, the lowest possible dose should be taken and for short or intermittent time periods, especially with drugs that have a greater risk of tolerance and addiction. Regarding psychotherapeutic treatment, cognitive behavioral psychotherapy and relaxation techniques are the main interventions to take into account.
