Abstract

Anxiety disorders tend to be chronic, are highly prevalent, and cause a high degree of disability. Their diagnosis is based on a detailed psychopathological case history and examination of the patient. Medical illnesses and substance use/abstinence must be ruled out. Diagnostic scales can be used to establish disease severity. Treatment must be in accordance with severity, personalized for each case, comprehensive, and based on scientific evidence. Therapeutic measures include hygiene and dietary measures, psychotherapy, pharmacological treatment, and, in the case of obsessive-compulsive disorder, other biologic treatments. This protocol includes two clinical decision support algorithms.
