Abstract

ConceptOligoarthritis refers to synovitis of two to four articular areas. EtiologyThe most important differential diagnosis that must be made is that of septic arthritis, since it is a medical emergency that requires intravenous antibiotic treatment. DiagnosisAnamnesis and complete physical examination are essential for a good evaluation of the patient, since it is sometimes the extra-articular signs that will guide the diagnosis and the most appropriate complementary tests. The analysis of joint fluid is key, so in case of finding difficulty in arthrocentesis, a guided puncture should be performed by ultrasound. Hospital referralSigns such as fever, malaise or hematic fluid are indicative of hospital referral.
